Day 4 @ Cannes Lions
My fourth day at the festival didn’t begin with me going to seminars. Instead, I further investigated the beaches as well as the cabanas and especially enjoyed going to the Roundel cabana. This media agency for Target was so welcoming and loved answering any of our questions about working in media after offering us their food and wine. We became familiar with one employee, and received his business card to further stay in touch. After I spoke to the HP employees about their latex printing machine which allowed me to print my own laptop skin, while also being more sustainable than a regular printer. I shortly left for my favorite talk I have seen all week, called “Quantum Video: A
Look at a Billion Hours a Day.” Youtube has changed the face of storytelling for my generation, and is something I have a personal connection to so hearing how socially edgy content is explored on Youtube was interesting. Someone spoke on trends that occurred on Youtube in the past years, and how such low budget content can still acquire many views and ad revenue. Another speaker took these trends and larger ideas and specifically told them to us in terms of advertising at the end which was the best way to wrap up the talk that instantly became my favorite. With me being a fan of entertainment as well as Jeff Goldblum, I went to the “The Future of Entertainment” talk which pulled apart the concept of public vs private consumption of media and how tied into media video gaming is. Hearing from the head of the festival, Jeff Goldblum, and a Havas Media employee they rationally built amazing answers by each contributing their knowledge to the questions. For my final talk of the day, I went off toward The Work to hear from the brilliant Malcolm Devoy speak on behalf of challenger brands and how they are successful. When asked about AI he slipped into speaking about the future which he believes will shift to radical forms of technology like embedding AI inside of ourselves. Exploring the beaches one last time before the closed for Friday was the perfect end to tonight, an absolutely beautiful as the sunset.
